Safety Tips When a Pro Comes to Your Home

Simple steps before and during a home visit: check the person matches the profile, agree the price in writing, keep payments traceable and report problems.

Letting a tradesperson into your house is a matter of trust. Every pro on FixAm has had their Ghana Card and selfie checked by the FixAm team, which tells you who they are. It does not replace your own care. These steps take a few minutes and protect you, your home and your money.

Before the visit

  • Compare before you choose. Open two or three profiles in Search, not only the first one.
  • Read the profile properly. Look for the green ID-verified badge, read the reviews and look at the work photos. What the badges mean explains what each badge proves.
  • Keep everything on WhatsApp. Agree the job, the price and the time in writing. If there is a disagreement later, the chat is your record.
  • Agree the price before the visit. Labour and materials, separately, in GHS.
  • Ask who is coming. Many pros bring an apprentice or a helper. Ask for their names in advance so nobody unexpected turns up.
  • Tell someone. Let a family member or neighbour know a pro is coming and when.
  • Plan to be home. Avoid leaving a pro alone in your house on a first job.

When the pro arrives

Check the face. Open the pro's profile and compare the photo with the person at your gate. The name should match too. If a different person arrives, ask why before you open the door, and message the pro you booked to confirm.

  • Put valuables away before the visit: phones, cash, jewellery, documents.
  • Show them only the area of the job. You do not need to give a tour of the house.
  • Stay nearby while they work, without hovering.
  • Agree any change of plan before it happens. If the pro finds a bigger problem, ask for the new price in writing on WhatsApp before they start the extra work.

Paying safely

  • Do not pay everything up front. For a bigger job, agree stages: some for materials, the rest when the work is done and you have checked it.
  • Pay in a way you can trace. MoMo or bank transfer leaves a record. If you pay cash, get a receipt.
  • Ask for receipts for materials the pro buys with your money.
  • Use the pro's invoice if they send one. A FixAm invoice comes as a fixam.pro/i/ link, lists every item, and shows the pro's mobile money number. Got an invoice from a pro? explains how to check it is genuine.
  • Never pay a different number from the one you agreed or the one on the invoice, even if someone calls to say it changed.

FixAm does not handle payments, so it cannot refund you. That is why the paper trail matters.

If something feels wrong

Trust your instincts. You can stop the job at any time.

  • If you feel unsafe, ask the person to leave, call someone nearby, and contact the police if you are threatened.
  • If something is missing after a visit, report it to the police and keep your WhatsApp chat as evidence.
  • Then report the pro on FixAm. Open their profile, scroll down and tap Report this provider. The team reviews every report within 24 hours. Report a provider or a business has the steps.
